Welcoming in the warmer seasons doesn’t just mean shedding a few extra layers in our beauty routine (hello, tinted moisturiser!) but freeing up the layers in our wardrobe too. Gone are thick coats and wool scarves (almost) and in comes Spring-ready clothing in the form of dresses, short sleeves and tie-up backs. There’s no one who does this better than Glasshouse friend and East London local, Amy Ward. We’ve sung the praises of her linenwear brand, Bug Clothing, before but she’s back on our radar with the launch of the label’s 2018 collection.
With a slightly more grown up and dressed up feel to it, the collection features softly-fitted dresses with all the hem frills and three-quarter length sleeves your Spring wardrobe requires. Made by hand in her Hackney Wick studio, each garment is crafted from Bug’s signature linen in either black, navy and natural. To beckon in the new drop, Amy has rallied together a group of equally good-tasted creatives to put together a dreamy lookbook photographed in the studio of ceramic designer Kana London.
With a veggie-heavy spread and a potting-shed-esque backdrop designed by previous Glasshouse contributor Victoria Spicer, the images are a fun feast that show off the clothes in their most frivolous ways. Amy told us that this collection and lookbook in particular was inspired by “Girlfriends feeling good, having dinner and drinking wine” as well as the Czech film Daisies, which from a quick Google is summed up as “Two bored Czech women play pranks on men and rebel against a materialistic society”. We’re obsessed.
Plenty of natural texture was the order of the day when it came to hair, mastered by our very own director Olivia Crighton and fitting perfectly with a selection of earrings from our two favourite jewellers: By SP and Jessie Harris. Amy never ceases to amaze us with her ability to gather together all the right people to create something beautiful and one of a kind. These particular images (shot by Agnes Lloyd-Platt) are no exception. Let’s just say a Bug Clothing dinner party looks like a night to remember.
