Roll up, roll up, it’s that time again! East London’s finest pop-up, Shoreditch’s The Basics Store, is back for another short but very sweet stay.
A total plethora of the very coolest and most creative in womenswear, accessories and lifestyle, the store re-emerged on June 1st in a new, larger Redchurch Street location. Its doors will only stay open until July 27th, so if you’re itching to get your hands on the best of what independent design has to offer, you’d better move quickly.
Curated by Marina Guergova, owner of one of our favourite local labels, silk specialists Marina London (and a Glasshouse girl who we recently had the pleasure of chatting to!) the shop brings together makers from all corners. From hand woven rugs to delicate jewellery, The Basics Store has it covered.
Marina has a great eye for detail, and a knack for sniffing out the the best new design talent, and her work with The Basics Store is no different. Amongst the wide variety of brands stocked you’ll find a number of current and future favourites. Our picks range between already-beloved names and new faces - we’re huge fans of Islington-based Hannah Bould’s playful but neutral handmade ceramics homewares, and of course we can’t wait to get our hands on some of Marina London’s sumptuous, instantly recognisable silk separates.
We’re little bit in love with the functional but stylish Bulgarian shoe brand by FAR, too – the company was founded by a group of long time friends with a love for well-made shoes and an eye for a gap in the market. They produce directional but practical and reliable sandals and shoes in irresistible colours and textures, and we’re hoping to snag a pair whilst we’ve got them on our doorsteps…
Items designed to last and last seem to be the name of the game for The Basics Store – also on offer is the SS16 edit by Danielle Foster, purveyor of top quality leather bags in all kinds of shapes and colours. We like the Charlie box bag with bright yellow sides, and the slouchy Bella drawstring bag in clean white: the variety of styles means that there’s something for all tastes in the collection.
One of the things we love most about the store is its major focus on promoting up and coming, innovative talent. For this reason, it’s no surprise that Jessie Harris Jewellery is included on the roster of brands. Jessie’s simple but graphic signature style fits in perfectly with The Basics Store’s minimalist but luxe approach, and we couldn’t be more excited to see her carefully handmade designs on sale.
So if you’ve got a few hours to while away this weekend (or anytime until the end of July), and you’re in the market for something special we’d recommend a trip to The Basics Store. But, be warned: with a shop full of expertly crafted must-have designs, it won’t be your average shopping trip, and you might come away with much more than you bargained for – we know we will!
