Internal TMJ & Buccal release jaw treatment preformed at Glasshouse Salon

The Deep Release: Internal TMJ & Buccal Massage

We often store our emotional worlds in our physical bodies. While we are quick to notice tension in our shoulders or lower back, there is one area that silently holds onto stress, unprocessed emotion, and daily fatigue more than almost anywhere else: the jaw. Internal TMJ & Buccal Massage Is the Missing Link in Facial Sculpting and Stress Relief

Whether from nighttime teeth grinding (bruxism), postural strain over a desk, or the subconscious clenching we do while navigating a busy day in London, the muscles of the lower face are under constant exertion. Over time, this restriction restricts circulation, dulls skin vibrancy, creates a squared or heavy lower-face appearance, and triggers persistent tension headaches.

To address this deep-seated restriction, we have introduced our newest somatic treatment at Glasshouse: the Internal TMJ & Buccal Release Treatment. Combining classical lymphatic drainage, facial sculpting, Kinesiology TMJ principles, and intra-oral (buccal) massage, this 30-minute structural alignment works from the inside out to restore physical ease, fluid movement, and natural facial contours.

In Conversation with Olivia Crighton

Q: Olivia, what inspired you to bring this specific TMJ and internal release work into the Glasshouse treatment space?

Through both my personal journey and my clinical work in holistic health and frequency medicine, I’ve seen how much energy and tension gets locked into the jaw. We talk about 'holding our tongue' or 'biting our lip'—these aren't just idioms; they are physical holding patterns. Conventional facials often focus purely on topical skin application. While nourish-rich, plant-based products are essential, true facial vitality comes from underlying structural freedom. Combining intra-oral release with Kinesiology techniques allows us to release chronic tension at its origin point. Clients walk out not only looking lifted and de-puffed, but feeling an immense sense of physical lightness and relief.

Q: Who benefits most from this treatment?

Almost everyone living in a fast-paced environment holds some degree of jaw tension, but it is life-changing for anyone who grinds their teeth at night, suffers from stress headaches or migraines, or notices a heaviness around their jawline. It’s also an incredible pre-event treatment for anyone wanting immediate, natural facial sculpting without invasive procedures. I am so pleased to be able to now offer this much needed treatment. Not only does it have cosmetic benefits complimenting a facial beautifully, but has the ability to resolve chronic health issues and conditions and reset the whole nervous system.

Working from the Inside Out: What Is Buccal Massage?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jawbone to your skull. Surrounding this joint are powerful muscles—most notably the masseter and pterygoid muscles—which can exert immense force. Standard external facial massage can only reach the outer layers of these muscles.

Buccal massage accesses the facial tissue internally. Wearing sterile, single-use medical gloves, a specialist gently works inside the mouth to stretch, release, and manipulate the masseters and internal facial tissue directly.

When released from both the inside and outside, restricted fascia softens instantly. This allows trapped lymphatic fluid to drain away, lifts facial contours, and signals a deep reset to your parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) nervous system.

Does internal TMJ / buccal massage hurt? It should never feel painful, but because the masseters hold significant chronic tension, you may feel points of intense, 'satisfying' tender release—similar to deep tissue work on a tight shoulder. We maintain constant communication throughout the service to ensure the pressure is entirely tailored to your comfort level.

How does a jaw massage help with facial sculpting and de-puffing? When jaw muscles are chronically tense, they restrict the surrounding blood flow and lymphatic channels, leading to fluid retention around the cheeks, chin, and neck. By stretching these muscles and applying targeted external lymphatic strokes, trapped fluid clears rapidly, softening a tense jawline and highlighting your natural bone structure.

How is the treatment kept hygienic? Hygiene and client safety are our absolute priorities. The internal portion of the treatment is performed strictly using sterile, single-use medical gloves. The environment is kept pristine, calm, and completely sanitary.

Are there any contraindications? Yes. To ensure your safety, this treatment is not suitable if you have had lower-face injectable treatments (such as Botox or dermal fillers) within the past 4 weeks, have active dental infections or recent oral surgery, or are experiencing severe, acute skin inflammation.

Can I book this as an add-on to a standard facial? Absolutely. The 30-minute Internal TMJ & Buccal Release Treatment is designed to work seamlessly as a standalone structural alignment or as an elevated add-on to any custom Glasshouse facial.
