Next to be cast in our Girls on Film hair musing series is the stunning Béatrice Dalle. Passionate, emotive and just a little unsettling, French flick Betty Blue is a foreign language classic. Taking centre stage is eccentric, gap-toothed beauty Béatrice Dalle, whose sharp black bob remains one of our favourite on-screen looks.
Working as a model in Paris at the time of her casting by legendary director Jean-Jacques Beineix in 1986, Betty Blue shot her into the spotlight, where she’s continued to attract attention for both risqué film roles and trend-bucking behaviour. Throughout her career Béatrice has played a slew of eyebrow raising characters, destroyed a £10,000 couture dress in the midst of a catwalk show and most recently married an ex-convict straight out of prison! Throughout all the drama one thing has, thankfully, remained consistent; her silky and enviable deep brunette locks.
Béatrice’s hair do’ in Betty Blue is an echo of the films timelessness, still looking both modern and feminine despite the its debut over two decades ago. The combination of a soft fringe, which stops just short of the brow, and a chunky crop serve to softly accentuate her strong jaw line and help to flatter her powerful face shape. It will come as no surprise, that this style is perfect for strong featured ladies and will best suit square or heart shaped faces. The best bit of all is that this chop is extra versatile when it comes to styling – blow dry it sleekly for a clean, preppy look or leave it swept over and tousled a la Beatrice!
