New year, new makeup step-by-step. This time, we’re going high impact and low effort.
Designed by Glasshouse assistant Lucy Rickard, the beauty (pun intended) of this look is that it uses only 5 products, and the highly pigmented red lip is a simple statement when paired with nearly-naked lashes and a barely-there base. Using mineral makeup from Jane Iredale and Bellapierre, this is a look that would be equally appropriate during the day, at work or after dark. Read on for the method!
Base
To keep the focus on that rouged pout, the skin was given a clean, semi-matte finish. Purepressed Powder by Jane Iredale in the shade Warm Sienna was swept onto the skin with the natural-bristled Handi Brush, followed a spritzing of Pommisst Hydration Spray to set the minerals. A multi-purpose product, Purepressed Powder is a three-in-one foundation, powder and concealer. It also contains broad-spectrum SPF 20 to protect against UVA and UVB rays, and antioxidants like pomegranate extract which is potent in helping to minimise UV damage. Essentially, it’s makeup that helps to protect and repair the skin.
To apply, swirl the Handi Brush in the powder and then sweep onto the skin in broad strokes, rather than buffing in circular motions. Circular buffing breaks apart the minerals, causing them to becoming shiny, but gentle sweeping strokes means they stay intact on the skin. Depending on how much coverage you want, Purepressed Powder can be layered up to seven times, just spritz with a hydration spray in between each application.
Lashes and Lips
For natural yet full lashes, two coats of Jane Iredale’s Longest Lash mascara in Black Ice were applied, keeping the eyes otherwise bare but slightly accentuated. Jane Iredale mascaras are free from shellac, lacquers and petroleum-based ingredients which can be found in most conventional mascara brands, and contain seaweed lipids to condition and protect the lashes.
For the lips, both a lip liner and lipstick were layered to create highly pigmented, long-lasting colour. First, Jane Iredale Lip Definer in Crimson was used to line the lips and then filled in as a base for the lipstick. The star of this show is Bellapierre’s mineral lipstick in the colour Ruby. Moisturising and non-synthetic, Bellapierre lipsticks contain natural waxes and antioxidants including Vitamins C, D and E, and come in a range of vibrant shades. Ruby was applied with a lip brush for ultimate precision, and looks even brighter when layered over the base of Crimson lip liner.
For some final grooming touches, we recommend fluffing up your brows with a clean eyebrow brush, and slicking your hair back into a simple centre-parted ponytail or bun. And that’s it! Do-able in ten minutes (on a slow day) the hardest part of this simple look is getting that lip liner on perfectly. So get practising!
