Director of Business Development:

We are looking for a confident, organised and experienced Operations and Business Development Manager to lead the Glasshouse Salon team during an exciting period of growth for the business. This is a rare opportunity to play a senior role across the core aspects of Glasshouse Salon: including staff, client experience, business growth, wholesale, ecommerce and accounts. We are looking for someone with previous operational and managerial experience who has a natural affinity for team leadership and a ‘people centric’ approach.

This is a salon-based role that involves working dextrously across the front of house and back of house. You will support our FOH and Operations Manager in managing client experience and the smooth-running of the salon, whilst being responsible for HR, Glasshouse Shop, training, wholesale partnerships and day-to-day business tasks such as wages, invoicing and stock. You will be responsible for motivating and inspiring the team, recruiting new staff and supporting the team’s overall performance and wellbeing.

This position is a unique opportunity for someone who is looking to make a real mark within a thriving, independent business. You will have an unflappable nature and a ‘can-do’ attitude which you use to overcome challenges with effective solutions. We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for our core values: sustainability, wellbeing and organic hair and beauty.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the overall smooth-running of the business, working alongside the FOH Manager and Director to ensure business targets are met.
  • Oversee all aspects of HR, including recruitment, contracts, rotas, performance monitoring and training.
  • Assist in managing the salon reception; taking bookings, managing schedules and providing impeccable customer service.
  • Manage the business accounts and budgets; paying and issuing invoices, running wages and maximising revenue where possible.
  • Lead the company’s wholesale strategy, acting as the main point of contact between suppliers and stockists and identifying new retail opportunities.
  • Work alongside the FOH Manager in the management of Glasshouse Shop, regularly updating our online store, placing orders with suppliers and ensuring accurate stock levels.
  • Liaise with our brand partners on new launches, product updates and training.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings, motivating and inspiring the team and setting a good example at all times.
  • Hold regular meetings with staff and senior management.
  • Act as an ambassador for the business, helping cultivate a positive atmosphere that puts client experience and staff wellbeing at its core.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years management experience at a similar-sized or larger company.
  • A high level of customer service experience and a positive, upbeat attitude.
  • Experience working in a front of house or reception role is preferred.
  • An ability to handle any situation with calmness, confidence and authority.
  • A genuine interest in the natural and organic hair and beauty industry. Relevant experience in the industry would be preferred, but not required.
  • A personable nature and an enthusiastic approach to any task you undertake.
  • A sound understanding of daily business operations, including budgets, invoicing and HR.
  • A high level of communication, including excellent writing skills.
  • An appreciation of the Glasshouse brand and a willingness to get involved at every level.

We offer a nurturing and supportive team environment, working with leading natural and organic brands, prioritising you and your clients health and wellbeing.

Benefits:

  • The chance to make a real impact in a sustainable salon that is at the forefront of the natural and organic hair industry.
  • A colour specialist salon that focuses on both creative and natural colour and techniques.
  • Specialised workshops and weekly training (where appropriate)
  • The opportunity to work with safer, gentler organic and natural products from the likes of Organic Colour Systems, Oway and Sans [Ceuticals] that prioritise your health and wellbeing.
  • Regular opportunities to be involved in shoots and projects for our popular online magazine, Glasshouse Journal.
  • Cost price on over 50 independent beauty brands through Glasshouse Shop.
  • A friendly environment that prioritises team wellbeing. We aim to be not just a professional team, but a close-knit group of individuals who operate in a positive, ethical way.
  • Competitive industry standard salary in a range of roles and hours.
