Happenings: Sonia Delaunay, The EY Exhibition

Happenings: Sonia Delaunay, The EY Exhibition

If you’re looking for an interesting and educational day out then look no further. This summer the Tate Modern has put on the first UK retrospective of Delaunay’s work. Often overshadowed by her husband and fellow artist, Robert Delaunay, this exhibition demonstrates Delaunay’s ability to stand alone outside of her late husbands work.

There is a huge body of work offered up in this sumptuous retrospective which includes portraiture, abstract work, textiles, and printing.

For us here at Glasshouse the standout room was Room 6: Fashion and Textiles. This room holds dozens and dozens of Delaunay’s vibrant and beautiful fabric prints. It also includes a hand embroidered 1960’s coat by Delaunay commissioned by Gloria Swanson which we are extremely envious of.

If you want to take a look at the exhibition yourself get down to the Tate Modern before the 9th of August for an inspiring treat!
