NYE Beauty: Golden Girl

NYE Beauty: Golden Girl

All that glitters is gold! And what better time of year to put these shining words of wisdom into practice than New Year’s Eve? It’s the night where anything goes and going all out is compulsory behaviour - minimalists, look away now.

This NYE, we’re turning the shimmer notch up. Admittedly not a subtle shade, going gold needs to be mastered in a way that doesn’t look as though you’ve raided the glitter aisle of a fancy dress shop. Think Kate Moss in the back of a cab looking high-shine, bronzed and quite literally dripping in gold.

Glasshouse’s latest beauty additions are two shades of RMS’s Eye Polish - Lunar (a light, pearlescent colour) and Solar (a warm gold, great on olive skin) are just the ticket. With a beautifully creamy consistency these eye polishes can be built up to for full effect or applied thin for a more sheer effect. The best thing about RMS is the weightlessness of their products - if you’re heading for a long night with several reapplications, it’s almost impossible for RMS products to look caked-on. A New Year’s Eve essential we say…

Our golden girl look just wouldn’t be complete without hero products Buriti Bronzer and the infamous Living Luminzer also from RMS Beauty. The ultra-sheer consistency of RMS’s Buriti Bronzer will create that sun-kissed glow and avoids a matte appearance of traditional powder bronzers, instead giving gloss - just like Ms Moss.

This is a great party product as it can be built up for the full golden girl works - we recommend dabbling across shoulder blades and lips for extra disco-light-catching shine. Polish it all off with handbag essential Living Luminizer. Acting as a highlighter, this luminizer accentuates any metallic shades and creates luminosity on the skin when applied to cheekbones, the inner corners of the eye and the bridge of the nose (and just about anywhere for NYE). Mix a bit with your foundation for a radiant base (also good for those post party tired eyes).

After all that if you’re still in the mood for a final gilded flourish then nails are the name of the game. Our Glasshouse manicurist Tabby suggests a DIY gold leaf manicure (make a last minute NYE dash to a craft shop to pick some up) to top the look off.

“This adds a little more interest to your nail without too much difficulty. Just rip little pieces of the gold leaf up and using a pair of tweezers drop them onto a second coat of gold colour, press into the nail with tweezers and then topcoat as usual” says Tabby, “Experiment with ombre effects using gold leaf just around the base or tip of the nail or go for full on grown up glitter by sprinkling it all over the whole nail”. Kure Bazaar do a couple of metallic shades - Or Bronze for a coppery tone or Platinum for full-on sequin silver - that’ll have you twinkled up before the clock strikes midnight.

So whether your dining, dancing, clubbing or causing mischief (or all of the above) then let gold be your NYE crowning glory. We can’t think of a better style to see in 2016. Make sure you check out our Pinterest board for extra inspiration.
